A debut game from a brand-new studio has sold one million copies in two days. How to Fish, the first release from developer Dazed Games, launched on Steam on 20th August 2026 at a discounted price of £3.96 / US$4.95, and crossed the million-sale mark before its third day on sale. Dazed Games announced the milestone in a post on Steam (Eurogamer, 24th August 2026).

The game is a physics-based co-op fishing title for up to four players, though "fishing" is doing some heavy lifting in that description. Players can catch seafood with rods, but also with firearms and explosives. A trick-shot mechanic — borrowed from the Call of Duty community's vocabulary for flashy, improbable plays — rewards players for landing creative catches (Eurogamer).

Player numbers back up the sales figure. How to Fish peaked at 268,101 concurrent players, meaning that many people were playing at the exact same time, according to SteamDB, a third-party site that tracks Steam activity (Eurogamer). For a studio's first-ever release, that is a striking number of people showing up at once.

The launch discount of 38 percent off the game's regular price runs until 27th August, which means anyone still on the fence has a few days left to grab it at the lower price before it goes up (Eurogamer).

In its Steam post celebrating the milestone, Dazed Games told players it plans to add more content and fix bugs, signalling that support for the game will continue beyond launch rather than winding down after the opening weekend (Eurogamer).

What makes How to Fish stand out is how little stood behind it before launch. No major publisher, no established studio track record, no months of preview coverage — just a low-priced, chaotic multiplayer fishing game that found its audience immediately. The combination of a budget price point, four-player co-op, and the kind of physics-driven mayhem that generates clips worth sharing appears to have been enough to pull a million buyers in under 48 hours. Whether the pace holds after the discount ends on 27th August will be the next number to watch.
