Netflix Greenlights The Gentlemen Season 3 Before Season 2 Even Airs

Netflix has ordered a third season of The Gentlemen — eight episodes, straight to series, meaning no pilot is shot first — before the second season has even reached screens. Guy Ritchie returns as creator, co-writer with Matthew Read, director and executive producer, according to Variety.

Season 3 is in pre-production. There are no finalised scripts yet and no new casting announced. Rumours of Meghan Markle joining the cast are just that — rumours, with no confirmation from Netflix or the producers.

The greenlight lands on the same day Netflix released the first full-length trailer for Season 2, which premieres on 3 September. That trailer carries the tagline "Old money. New tricks." and catches up with Eddie Horniman, played by Theo James — billed in the teaser as "The Duke" — and Susie Glass, played by Kaya Scodelario, as they expand their operation internationally into Italy Variety.

The Season 2 cast is deep. Returning alongside James and Scodelario are Ray Winstone, Harry Goodwins, Joely Richardson, Daniel Ings, Jasmine Blackborow, Vinnie Jones, Giancarlo Esposito, Michael Vu, Ruby Sear and Pearce Quigley. Hugh Bonneville joins as a new aristocratic character. Esposito is back as American billionaire Stanley Johnston. New faces include Benjamin Clementine, Benedetta Porcaroli, Amra Mallassi, Tyler Conti, professional boxer Chris Eubank Jr and Maya Jama Variety.

The show is produced by Moonage Pictures for Netflix and Miramax TV. Ritchie co-wrote the pilot script back when the project was still in negotiation in 2022, adapting his own 2020 film of the same name Variety. Netflix describes the series as a story where "old money meets drug money" and Eddie transitions "from duke to drug baron" Netflix Tudum.

The Season 3 order is part of a broader Netflix investment in U.K.-originated programming. The platform also greenlit new seasons of Black Mirror (Season 8), Legends (Season 2) and Being Gordon Ramsay (Season 2), and renewed the U.K. dramas Supacell, Black Doves and House of Guinness for second seasons Variety.

For the two hundred people who work on a production like this — crew, writers' rooms, cast — a Season 3 order before Season 2 airs is the kind of scheduling decision that keeps a story alive. Scripts are not written, sets are not built and performances are not filmed until someone says yes to the next batch of episodes. Netflix has said yes.

Whether Markle appears or not, whether Season 2 lands with audiences on 3 September — those are questions the next few months will answer. What is confirmed, as of today, is that The Gentlemen has a third season, eight episodes, and Guy Ritchie at the helm.
