Ben McKenzie Joins Wife Morena Baccarin in Sheriff Country Season 2 Premiere

Ben McKenzie will guest star in the Season 2 premiere of Sheriff Country, appearing alongside his wife Morena Baccarin — the first time the real-life couple have shared the screen since their days on Gotham (Deadline).
McKenzie plays Sheriff Jim Wade, a neighbouring lawman called in to assist Baccarin's Sheriff Mickey Fox. The character, per Deadline's reporting, "has secrets of his own." On Gotham, McKenzie played Detective James Gordon and Baccarin played Dr. Leslie Thompkins. The two began their relationship during production, married in real life, and saw their characters wed in the series finale. Now they reunite on a very different kind of police drama.
The Season 2 premiere is titled "Cyclone." In it, Sheriff Mickey Fox struggles to process a shocking revelation about her family and races to save a troubled young woman whose descent into a dangerous criminal operation uncovers a growing threat to the town of Edgewater (Deadline).
Sheriff Country is a spinoff of Fire Country, the CBS drama about California prison firefighters. Baccarin's Mickey Fox is the stepsister of Cal Fire division chief Sharon Leone, played by Diane Farr on the parent series. The spinoff is executive produced by Fire Country star Max Thieriot, Joan Rater, Tony Phelan, Matt Lopez, and Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed for Jerry Bruckheimer Television.
CBS announced in July 2026 that the second season would arrive in October, with Baccarin reprising her lead role (Yahoo Canada). Baccarin had signalled the renewal herself in a February 2026 Instagram post telling fans the series was "coming back for a second season" (Instagram).
The first season ended on a dramatic note. Baccarin warned fans in April 2026 of an "utter and complete betrayal" in the season finale (People). How that cliffhanger resolves — and what role Sheriff Wade plays in the fallout — is the question the premiere will answer.
Season 2 of Sheriff Country premieres Friday, 9 October at 8 p.m. on the CBS Television Network, with streaming on Paramount+.
