Konami Brings Metal Gear Solid to CatCon 2026 With Cat Merchandise Line
Konami is bringing Metal Gear Solid to CatCon 2026 with an exclusive line of cat merchandise tied to the launch of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2. The collection will be sold at Konami's booth during the two-day convention in October, with online sales running alongside the event for those who cannot attend in person (GameSpot).
CatCon 2026 runs October 10–11. Konami's booth will sell the full merchandise range across both days, and fans shopping remotely can order through the OKS Gear Shop during the same window (GoNintendo).
The lineup leans into one of the series' most recognisable gags: the cardboard box. In Metal Gear Solid games, players hide from enemies by crouching under a cardboard box — a running joke that spans the franchise's history. The new merchandise includes cat-scratch boxes modelled after the iconic boxes associated with series protagonists Big Boss and Old Snake. The collection also features plushie pet toys and cat collars inspired by Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (GameSpot).
The merchandise line coincides with the release of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, a bundle of the stealth-action games that Konami originally published across the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable eras. The collection launches August 27 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch — less than seven weeks before the CatCon booth opens (GameSpot).
CatCon attendees will also get a meet-and-greet with Kat Curtis and the catfluencer known as One Eared Uno — a social-media-famous cat with a sizable following. The meet-and-greet is scheduled for October 10 at 2:00 PM at the Konami booth (One Eared Uno on Instagram). Curtis and Uno will also appear in a special playthrough video of Master Collection Vol. 2, putting the collection in front of a cat-loving audience that may not already follow the series (GameSpot).
For a series built on hiding under cardboard, there is something fitting aboutKonami putting cat-scratch boxes in the hands of the animals most likely to claim a box the moment it arrives. Whether any cat will let their owner keep the Metal Gear branding intact is another question entirely.
