USA Network has handed a straight-to-series order to Diplomatic Immunity, a medical drama set inside the U.S. Embassy in Rome, from writers and executive producers Matt Corman and Chris Ord. The series is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios, with Fox Entertainment Global handling international distribution. Deadline

A straight-to-series order means the show goes straight into production — no pilot episode is filmed first to test whether a network wants to commit. That kind of order signals a network's confidence before a single frame is shot.

Diplomatic Immunity follows a young American doctor assigned to the medical office at the U.S. Embassy in Rome. The character handles challenging medical cases while navigating diplomacy, geopolitics, and romance. Deadline

Corman and Ord will serve as showrunners — the top creative authority on a television series, responsible for day-to-day writing and production decisions. The pair are no strangers to USA Network. They created the spy drama Covert Affairs, which ran for five seasons on the channel. They also co-created Daredevil: Born Again for Disney+. Deadline

The deal carries weight beyond a single show. Diplomatic Immunity marks Fox Entertainment Studios' first major scripted live-action sale to an external network — meaning Fox's in-house production arm is selling a drama to a channel it does not own, rather than keeping it within the Fox family. Fox Entertainment Global, the company's international distribution arm, will sell the series to broadcasters and platforms outside the United States. Deadline

For USA Network, the order adds a new scripted title to a slate that has leaned heavily on unscripted programming and live sports in recent years. For Fox Entertainment Studios, it is an early test of whether the studio can become a supplier to other networks, not just its own.
