Netflix has renewed The Diplomat for a fifth season, according to Deadline. A renewal means the streamer has ordered more episodes of a show it already airs.

The decision came about two weeks after the fourth season arrived on the service. Netflix's own Tudum site listed the season for release on Oct. 15, and it runs eight episodes. Deadline reports that Season 4 opened its first week with 4.8 million views. In the same report, the season's ratings were said to be in line with those of Season 3.

The show is led by Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell. Allison Janney plays President Grace Penn, and Bradley Whitford and Ato Essandoh also appear in the cast, according to Netflix. Debora Cahn created the series.

Season 4 brought some big changes at the top of the story. Jodie Whittaker joined as British Prime Minister Bethan Vaughn, taking over from Rory Kinnear's Nicol Trowbridge. David Gyasi's character, Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison, was killed off during the season.

The season closed on a major turn for the lead. Kate Wyler, played by Russell, resigns during a G7 meeting in Italy. That leaves the fifth season to pick up from a very different place for her character.

For viewers, the renewal means the story continues. For the people who make the show, it means another season of work for the cast and crew. Netflix has not announced a premiere date for Season 5.
