Bob Mortimer Stars in Murals, Dlala Studios' First Original Game in 21 Years
UK comedian Bob Mortimer is heading into video games. Dlala Studios revealed its next title, Murals, at Gamescom, an action-adventure set inside twisted fairy-tale worlds — and Mortimer plays a scarecrow-like apothecary called Magic Dave.
The game sends players travelling between lands, helping dark reimaginings of characters like Rapunzel, the Little Mermaid, and Hansel and Gretel. Magic Dave hands out power-ups called Eeries, which players can choose and reroll but permanently keep once earned. Dlala has been clear that Murals is not a roguelike — a genre where progress typically resets after each death — so the Eeries you collect stay with you for the entire journey. VG247
Mortimer is one of Britain's most recognisable comics, known for the double-act Reeves and Mortimer, the BBC fishing series Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, and appearances on panel shows Would I Lie to You and Last One Laughing. His casting as Magic Dave gives the game a distinctive comic presence rather than a conventional video-game narrator.
Murals is scheduled for release on PC in 2027. It is also a milestone for the studio: the first original IP Dlala has developed in 21 years. The studio is publishing the game itself, taking on the responsibilities a publisher normally handles — funding, marketing, and storefront distribution — without an external partner.
Dlala's previous work includes the 2020 Battletoads reboot and Disney Illusion Island, which launched on Nintendo Switch in 2023 and later arrived on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in May 2025. Both were licensed projects built on existing franchises. Murals breaks that pattern with a world and characters the studio owns outright.
What makes this stand out is the convergence of a beloved comic voice with a studio stepping out on its own. Dlala has spent years handling other companies' properties; now it is betting on its own story, its own publishing, and a fairy-tale world dark enough to need a scarecrow apothecary handing out powers called Eeries.
