Troye Sivan Says Cultural Impact Matters More Than Sales for New Album 'She's the Best'
Troye Sivan has a fourth studio album on the way, and he is far more concerned with whether it leaves a mark than with how many copies it shifts. Speaking on the podcast Las Culturistas With Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang, the Australian pop artist said he would be "devastated" if the record, titled She's the Best, passed "without any sort of cultural impact" rather than merely selling well (Billboard).
In fact, Sivan said he could not recall his first-week sales figures and that he has "never really been numbers-minded when it comes to music stuff." His previous album, 2023's Something to Give Each Other, debuted at No. 20 on the Billboard 200 — the weekly US album chart that blends physical sales, digital sales and streaming — and reached No. 1 on Billboard's Dance/Electronic Albums chart. Two singles from that record, "Rush" and "One of Your Girls," placed on the Billboard Hot 100, the US singles ranking.
The lead single and title track, "She's the Best," arrived on 14 August, with the full album due 9 October. Sivan told Billboard the rollout will be "very quick" because he wants fans to hear the project in full, and described the album as "a journey" best experienced from top to bottom. He also revealed that he made much of the record at home with his younger brother.
Musically, Sivan pointed to an unexpected set of references. He cited Janet Jackson's "Together Again" as a touchstone, along with late-1990s grunge-pop such as Marcy Playground and what he called "Fatboy Slim energy." The result, he said, is intentionally "chaotic" and layered. For his last album, he described his goal as "perfect pop" and called himself "a student of the school of Max Martin and Swedish people" — a reference to the Swedish songwriting and production tradition behind decades of pop hits.
Sivan's career now spans more than a decade. He announced his EP Wild back in 2015 as an "opening installment" of new music (Billboard), and in February 2026 he released a 10th anniversary edition of his debut album Blue Neighbourhood (Billboard). In 2024, he co-headlined the SWEAT Tour with Charli xcx.

For fans, the quick rollout signals confidence in the full record rather than a slow drip of singles. Sivan is betting that listeners will sit with the whole thing — chaos, layers and all.
