Ozzy Osbourne Biopic: Script Done, Director Search Underway, Says Jack Osbourne
The script for the Ozzy Osbourne biopic is finished, and the production is now looking for a director, according to Jack Osbourne, who is producing the film alongside his mother, Sharon.
Jack shared the update on 27 August 2026, telling Rolling Stone that the team is "currently going out to director" — the industry phrase for approaching candidates to helm the project. He also confirmed that the production has someone in mind to play his father. "Conversations have been had," he said, though he declined to name the actor. The film is being developed with Sony Pictures and Polygram Entertainment.
The biopic, which has been in the works since before Ozzy Osbourne's death in 2025 at age 76, was first announced in 2021. At the time, Ozzy himself confirmed that screenwriter Lee Hall was writing the script. The film is described as chronicling "the extraordinary life of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, and the great love story between him and his wife, Sharon" (Rolling Stone).
Sharon Osbourne, who is producing the film, addressed the story's scope in the original announcement. "Our relationship at times was often wild, insane and dangerous but it was our undying love that kept us together," she said. "We're thrilled to partner with Sony Pictures and Polygram to bring our story to the screen."
Jack's guiding principle for the project is direct: "Give the fans what they want." He expanded on that, saying the film cannot be "artsy" or "esoteric" — it needs to connect with the audience that has followed his father's career for decades. The Osbourne family previously described the project as "an adult movie for adults," a framing they offered in a 2020 interview.
The long development timeline was something Ozzy himself acknowledged with characteristic bluntness. During a 2024 episode of The Osbournes Podcast, he said, "By the time they finish this film, I'll be dead." Sharon's response: "Movies take forever to make."
Beyond the biopic, the Osbourne family business has also created an AI avatar of Ozzy, adding another dimension to how his legacy is being carried forward.
For fans, the update is concrete: a script exists, a director is being sought, and an actor has at least been discussed. None of those things guarantee a release date — filmmaking, as Sharon noted, is slow. But for a project that Ozzy did not live to see completed, each step forward narrows the distance between announcement and screen.
