Adria Arjona Is Training Hard for Her Secret Role in DC's Man of Tomorrow
Adria Arjona is training two to three hours a day on what she calls a "crazy diet" to prepare for her role in Man of Tomorrow, the DC Studios sequel to Superman set to reach theatres on 9 July 2027.
Speaking to Screen Rant, Arjona said the regimen has given her "muscles she has never had" — though she declined to confirm which character she is playing. Deadline reported her comments on 28 August 2026.
The role itself remains a mystery. DC Studios has not disclosed the part, and Arjona sidestepped the question in the interview. The Hollywood Reporter revealed in April 2026 that Arjona had won the role after a competitive casting process in which Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler and Grace Van Patten also tested. The fan site ComicBookMovie has reported — without studio confirmation — that the part is Maxima, a DC supervillain.
Man of Tomorrow reunites Arjona with James Gunn and Peter Safran, the co-heads of DC Studios who run the franchise. The pair gave Arjona her first major film role in The Belko Experiment (2016), a workplace horror they produced. Gunn also writes and directs the Superman sequel.
Gunn has shared that filming on Man of Tomorrow has wrapped. The production carried a deep roster of DC characters: David Corenswet returns as Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Newcomers to the franchise include Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. The film also pulls in characters from elsewhere in the DC Universe that Gunn and Safran are building. Aaron Pierre, who plays John Stewart in HBO's Lanterns series, will appear. Xolo Maridueña reprises his Blue Beetle role, first seen in the 2023 solo film.
For Arjona, the role caps a busy stretch. She stars in A24's Onslaught, released this summer, before stepping into the DC machine next year. The jump from an A24 genre film to a blockbuster superhero sequel is the kind of career arc that studio casting decisions are built on — and the physical preparation suggests whatever Gunn has asked her to do on screen will demand it.
Fans will have to wait until next July to find out who she is playing. The secrecy, at least, is working as intended.
