Taylor Swift Donates $50,000 to Mother Hit by Car While Helping Stranded Teens
Taylor Swift donated $50,000 to a GoFundMe campaign for a Connecticut mother of three who was struck by a car while helping stranded teenagers on a rainy roadside.
Ashley Taunton pulled over during a heavy rainstorm after seeing a group of teenage motorists whose car had hydroplaned, according to the campaign page and Rolling Stone. While she was assisting at the scene, another vehicle hydroplaned towards the group. Taunton pushed a person out of the way before she was hit herself.
Taunton has undergone two major surgeries, with more scheduled, the GoFundMe page states. The campaign, titled "Support Ashley Taunton's Brave Recovery," was set up to help cover daily living expenses so that Taunton, her husband Joe, and their three children could focus on her health rather than bills.
Swift's contribution was accompanied by a message in the GoFundMe comment section: "Wishing you the best recovery possible and sending love to your family!" Rolling Stone reported the donation on 29 August 2026.
The GoFundMe page, created on 19 July, had raised $64,257 toward a $110,000 goal at the time the page was last surfaced by press coverage, People and the campaign page indicate. Swift's $50,000 gift was the single largest donation listed on the page.
Taunton's husband, Joe, described the campaign's purpose in its description: keeping the family afloat financially while Ashley faces a long and still-uncertain recovery timeline. The funds are earmarked for everyday costs — rent, food, childcare — not medical bills alone.
Swift has a well-documented history of contributing to crowdfunding campaigns for individuals facing hardship, often through large single donations left with brief personal messages. In this instance, the recipient was a stranger whose story reached her through the GoFundMe platform rather than through any prior connection.
The campaign remains open and accepting donations.
