Sarah Ferguson Returns to the UK After Seven Months Abroad, Renting £10,000-a-Month Home in the Home Counties

Sarah Ferguson is preparing to return to the UK seven months after leaving, according to the Sun, renting a six-bedroom gated property in the Home Counties at £10,000 a month. She could move in as soon as Monday, 31 August.

The house has three bathrooms and a granny annexe. The Sun did not specify where in the Home Counties the property sits.

Ferguson, 66, has not been seen in the UK since being evicted from Royal Lodge, the 30-room Windsor Great Park residence she shared with her ex-husband Prince Andrew under a Crown Estate lease.

The eviction followed Andrew's arrest on his 66th birthday in February for misconduct in public office. He was subsequently released, remains under police investigation, and continues to deny any wrongdoing. Andrew was ordered to surrender the lease on Royal Lodge, requiring both him and Ferguson to vacate the property.

During her months abroad, Ferguson spent time at a £2,000-a-night spa retreat in Austria before keeping a low profile in Verbier, Switzerland, in a property owned by her former partner Paddy McNally. She was photographed at the luxury ski resort in April.

McNallly has since died. Ferguson missed his funeral. Her eldest daughter, Princess Beatrice, attended the ceremony on behalf of the family.

For Andrew, the move from Royal Lodge has meant relocation of a different kind. He has been living at Marsh Farm, a five-bedroom property on King Charles's 20,000-acre Sandringham estate in Norfolk since April. The house was extensively renovated before his arrival, including the addition of luxury carpets and a converted stables. He has been seen walking the late Queen Elizabeth's corgis, Muick and Sandy, on the estate grounds.

The eviction process was not swift. As far back as October 2025, the Sun reported that Andrew and Ferguson had agreed to leave Royal Lodge but demanded two homes in return. Ferguson was described as "bereft," telling those around her she had "nowhere to go."

She has since signalled her intention to move forward independently.

The return comes amid a family milestone. Princess Eugenie gave birth to her third child, a baby girl named Adelaide, on 3 August 2026.

Ferguson's departure from the UK was entangled in the broader fallout from Andrew's links to the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Royal Lodge itself had been a point of controversy before the eviction: in 2024, the Express reported that Ferguson used the residence's standing to persuade a plutocrat to donate 100,000 euros (about £84,000) at a charity gala on the French Riviera.

The Sun's royal correspondent Matt Wilkinson broke the story of Ferguson's imminent return, framing it as a "comeback" following what he called the "Epstein storm."

Whether the rented Home Counties house becomes a long-term base or a holding position is not yet clear. What is certain is that Ferguson, absent from the country since winter, is coming back.
