Showbox, the South Korean studio behind the 2024 box office hit Exhuma, has launched a new microdrama label called Showbite, with original short-form content rolling out from September 2026 (Variety).

Microdramas — short episodic series designed for vertical viewing on phones, often running one to two minutes an episode — have become a fast-growing format across Asian and Western markets. Showbox said Showbite is built to pair its storytelling background with the pace of short-form drama, bringing Korean stories to audiences worldwide (Variety).

The label's launch slate spans romance, comedy, revenge, action-thriller, period drama, fantasy, mystery and horror. The romance titles include Taste of You, a BL (boys' love, a genre centred on romance between male characters) enemies-to-lovers story set in the world of culinary competition; Love in Thailand, a romantic comedy set at a golf resort; The New Hire Is Too Hot to Handle, an office romance; Love, Again, a second-chance story involving lost memories and a reunion; and My Ex-Bias Problem, in which an arrogant K-pop idol is sent to a remote island village (Variety).

Three female-driven revenge titles are on the slate: The Fallen Heiress Returns Wicked, They Messed with the Wrong Daughter-in-Law and Contract Marriage: The Heir's Hound. The action crime-thriller Asura: Return of the Reaper is also in the lineup, alongside The Secret Wife Exchange, a period drama set in Joseon-era Korea (Variety).

Fantasy and horror get their own entries. Her Royal Queen Energy is a reincarnation fantasy set in an alternate modern Korean monarchy. The Fallen Idol Is Possessed! blends K-pop, romance and supernatural horror, while Lucky Horror Live Show centres on a livestream that turns terrifying. The mystery slate includes Bridal Shower: The Missing Bride, a mystery comedy built around a string of twists (Variety).

Showbite arrives with a production partner already in place. In June 2026, Showbox signed a co-production deal with ReelShort, a microdrama app, covering the development and production of original microdramas based on ReelShort's existing popular IPs, or intellectual properties (Deadline; The Hollywood Reporter).

Showbite will launch official TikTok, Instagram and YouTube accounts under the Showbite name in early September. The label also plans to attend Broadcast Worldwide in Seoul and the Busan International Film Festival's Asian Contents & Film Market to expand its distribution network (Variety).

For viewers who have watched Korean drama migrate from broadcast to streaming to, now, the vertical phone screen, Showbite is the latest bet that the format can carry the same range — from period intrigue to K-pop ghost stories — that made Korean scripted content a global export in the first place.
