Jeff Goldblum to Host Saturday Night Live UK Season 2 Premiere with CMAT as Musical Guest
Jeff Goldblum will host the season two premiere of Saturday Night Live UK on 12 September, with Irish singer CMAT booked as the night's musical guest (The Hollywood Reporter). Goldblum, 73 at the time of the announcement, is the first name revealed for the new run (Barrhead News).
Saturday Night Live UK is the British spinoff of NBC's long-running American sketch show, broadcasting live each week. The format is the same one American audiences have watched since 1975: a celebrity host, a musical guest, and a cast of repertory performers building a fresh hour of comedy in the days before air. Season one lined up Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan, Riz Ahmed, Jack Whitehall, Nicola Coughlan, Aimee Lou Wood, Hannah Waddingham and Ncuti Gatwa across its run (The Hollywood Reporter).
Fey's episode drew more than 220,000 viewers on Sky in Britain — a figure that gives a sense of the show's first-season reach, though the series airs across additional platforms (The Hollywood Reporter).
Season two will run six new episodes, with additional episodes planned for early 2027 (The Hollywood Reporter). All 11 members of the inaugural cast are returning: Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi and Paddy Young. Behind the scenes, Laura Claxton has been promoted to co-head writer, joining existing head writer Jonno Johnson. Lorne Michaels, the creator of the original American series, serves as executive producer, with James Longman as lead producer.
CMAT, the musical guest for the premiere, is a Brit-nominated Irish artist (Radio Times). She brings a pop sensibility with country inflections — a pairing that should sit comfortably alongside Goldblum's reputation for oddball charm.
