Verve Ventures has taken on North American sales for Jerome Sable's black comedy Wolf of the North, heading into its presentation at the Frontières genre showcase on 12 September at the Toronto International Film Festival (Variety).

The film stars Canadian actor and comedian Pat Thornton as Farley Pruitt Jr., an obsessive wildlife-TV wannabe trying to finish the last work of his more famous father — who was eaten by Arctic wolves three decades earlier while making a film about them. Sable developed the character with Thornton and co-wrote the mockumentary-style script, drawing creative cues from the likes of The Foot Fist Way and Bottle Rocket (Variety).

Verve Ventures head Amy Beecroft called the project "funny, strange, deeply Canadian and surprisingly universal" (Variety). The sales banner — a division of the talent and literary agency Verve — will pitch the title to distributors across the United States and Canada, the territory known in the trade as "domestic."

Wolf of the North is one of seven projects selected for the Frontières showcase, co-presented by the Fantasia International Film Festival and the inaugural TIFF: The Market, which runs 10–16 September as part of the broader Toronto festival. The Frontières presentation is set for Saturday, 12 September at 9:00 a.m. at Scotiabank's Scotia 5 theatre (TIFF). Frontières, a market fixture rooted in genre cinema, presents a majority of Canadian titles this year (TIFF).

Sable's previous credits include the horror-musical comedy Stage Fright, which premiered at SXSW, and the horror-musical short The Legend of Beaver Dam. He returns to genre territory with a project that blends mockumentary format with black comedy, this time rooted in the Canadian wilderness.

The production roster carries a documentary pedigree. Wolf of the North is the first fictional feature from Toronto-based 90th Parallel Productions, led by president and executive producer Stuart Henderson, with Javiera Quintana as lead producer. Andrew Bronfman of Toronto's Beyond the Frame also produces, and Good Movies is credited as a production company in the Frontières market listing (Variety; TIFF). Canadian distribution sits with Raven Banner Entertainment, represented by Michael Paszt (Variety).

The project received development funding from Ontario Creates and was awarded production funding from Telefilm Canada in June 2026 (Variety). It is currently in financing and pre-production, with producers targeting a January 2028 start of principal photography.

For a film still early in its chain of decisions — financing, casting, a shoot more than a year away — the Frontières pitch is the moment where buyers and sales agents first weigh in. TIFF: The Market, now in its inaugural edition, gives that conversation a dedicated venue inside one of the world's largest public festivals.
