Rebecca Ferguson and Greta Lee Confirmed for Romantic Comedy 'Honeymoon / Funeral'
Rebecca Ferguson and Greta Lee are set to star together in the romantic comedy Honeymoon / Funeral, with the film already shooting in London and international sales launching ahead of the Toronto film market, Deadline revealed on 3 September 2026.
The film pairs two actors whose paths have crossed before — both recently appeared in Kathryn Bigelow's A House of Dynamite on Netflix — but this is their first co-lead. Ferguson, known to global audiences as Lady Jessica in Denis Villeneuve's Dune films (she will reprise the role in Dune: Part Three), most recently appeared opposite Cillian Murphy in Netflix's Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man and stars in and executive-produces Apple TV+'s Silo. Lee broke through with Celine Song's Academy Award-nominated Past Lives, earning Golden Globe, Critics' Choice, and Independent Spirit nominations for Best Actress.
The premise of Honeymoon / Funeral turns on a chance encounter: two women meet on a flight from Los Angeles to London. One is travelling to her honeymoon alone, left at the altar by her girlfriend. The other is heading home for her mother's funeral. They wind up spending the week together.
Nahnatchka Khan directs, with a screenplay by Julia Bicknell. Khan's previous directing credits include Always Be My Maybe and Totally Killer; Bicknell has written for Yellowjackets, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Club, and 13 Reasons Why. Jennifer Carreras and Khan produce under their Fierce Baby banner, alongside Bicknell. MRC — the production and financing company behind recent film releases Wuthering Heights and All of You, and television titles including Ozark, Poker Face, and House of Cards — is financing and overseeing the production.
FilmNation is launching international sales at the Toronto International Film Festival market (the TIFF market — where distributors from around the world acquire the rights to release films in their territories). That sales push comes as the film has been generating attention: Ferguson and Lee were photographed filming together on a London street in late August, including a kissing scene, which set off media speculation about the project before the official confirmation arrived (Cairns Post, 24 August 2026).
For audiences, the combination is an enticing one. Ferguson has built a career on intensity — from the Mission: Impossible franchise to the operatic grandeur of Dune — while Lee's breakout in Past Lives hinged on quiet, precisely calibrated emotion. A romantic comedy from the director of Always Be My Maybe gives both actors room to work in a lighter register, and the two-hander structure of the script puts the chemistry between them front and centre.
No release date has been announced. With filming under way in London and sales launching at TIFF, a 2027 theatrical or streaming arrival is the earliest realistic window.
