Jin Sakai is back. During the September 3 PlayStation State of Play livestream, developer Sucker Punch revealed "Most Wanted," a roguelike combat-survival mode for Ghost of Yōtei — and the returning protagonist of 2020's Ghost of Tsushima is one of four playable characters (PlayStation Blog).

It is the first time Jin has been playable since his original outing six years ago. Sucker Punch kept his character model faithful to the 2020 original while applying visual upgrades for the newer game. He brings all four of his fighting stances from Ghost of Tsushima, plus sticky bombs, the Dance of Wrath ability, and his Ghost stance — a temporary power-up that lets him cut through enemies in a single strike (GameSpot).

Most Wanted is a roguelike — a format where each attempt, or "run," builds on the last. Players pick from four samurai: Atsu, Oyuki, Nagato, and Jin. Each carries a katana alongside unique weapons, abilities, Ultimates, and Kill Streaks. Atsu, the default starting character, wields dual katana and uses blinding powder and blind bombs, with an Ultimate that summons two wolves (PlayStation Blog).

The structure is built around a bounty board. Each bounty tasks players with hunting a member of the Yōtei Six, a group of bosses. To reach them, players fight through waves of enemies and minibosses, unlocking perks after each wave before facing the bounty's final target. Defeating a member of the Yōtei Six rewards coins that can be spent to upgrade the chosen samurai for future runs.

Those perks sit at the core of the mode. Players select from options including weapon mastery, gear loadouts, summons, parries, and survivability — building a custom loadout that grows during each run. Bounties can be replayed at increasing difficulty levels, culminating in the hardest bounty against a character named Lord Saito.

Between runs, players earn Mon — the in-game currency — to unlock new techniques, weapon upgrades, charms, and additional characters. Cosmetics earned in Most Wanted also carry over to the main game, usable during Atsu's quest or in the "Echoes of Sekigahara" expansion, a separate story add-on.

Most Wanted and the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion both launch on October 1, 2026. The mode is included in Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition, which arrives on PS5 that same day. Players who already own the base game — released on PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025 — can purchase a Complete Edition upgrade to access the extra content. New players can buy the Complete Edition with everything in one package.

Ghost of Yōtei is set in the lands surrounding Mount Yōtei, a peak in Ezo — the historical name for the region now known as Hokkaido in northern Japan. The game follows Atsu, a new protagonist, on a journey through that landscape roughly 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima.

For fans of the original game, Jin's return is the headline. He is not the lead this time, but he brings his full kit from Tsushima into a mode designed to be replayed, not finished once.
