Lego Builds the Original PlayStation: 1,911 Pieces, Two Classic Game Dioramas, and an Astro Bot Bonus
A Lego replica of the original PlayStation console is arriving this October, complete with working buttons, a plug-in controller, and tiny buildable scenes from two of the platform's most recognisable launch-era games.
Announced during a PlayStation State of Play broadcast on 3 September 2026, the set will be released on 1 October through PlayStation Direct — Sony's own online store — followed by a wider rollout to Lego shops and Lego.com three days later, on 4 October (VGC).
The set runs 1,911 pieces and carries a price of US$179.99 / €159.99 / £139.99. The built console matches the original PlayStation's dimensions almost exactly, meaning it will sit on a shelf at roughly the footprint Sony's 1994 hardware occupied. The Power and Open buttons are functional mechanisms — press them and parts move. A Lego gamepad plugs into the console's front port, just as the real DualShock did.
Where this set goes beyond a static model is in its two removable game dioramas. One re-creates a Gran Turismo scene: a miniature track populated with scaled-down cars. The other draws from Ape Escape, the 1999 platformer about catching mischievous primates, and depicts a tropical island scene with a monkey whose helmet light can be swapped between blue and red. Both dioramas lift out of the console lid and stand on their own as separate displays.
Steffi Steffen of Sony Interactive Entertainment said SIE worked closely with Lego designers to craft a building experience inspired by PlayStation's origins, according to VGC.
A bonus Lego Astro Bot set — the cheerful robot mascot from Sony's 2024 platformer — will be offered as a gift-with-purchase alongside the PlayStation set. Lego's gift-with-purchase items are not sold separately; they are promotional add-ons bundled with qualifying orders. This one is expected to be available only when the PlayStation set is bought directly from the Lego website, for a limited time (VGC).
This is not the first time Sony and Lego have crossed product lines. A Lego Tallneck from Horizon Forbidden West shipped in May 2022, followed by a Lego Horizon Adventures set in March 2025 (PlayStation Blog). The new PlayStation console set, though, is the first to recreate the hardware itself rather than a game world — a piece of gaming history rendered in 1,911 interlocking bricks.
For collectors and PlayStation fans, the 1 October PlayStation Direct release offers the earliest shot at the set. The Astro Bot bonus tips the scales toward ordering from Lego.com once the wider rollout hits on 4 October, though the limited-time nature of that promotion means the window could close without much warning.
