Sony Reveals 1:1 Lego PlayStation Console With Working Disc Tray and Controller
Sony has revealed a full-size Lego replica of the original PlayStation console, complete with a buildable controller, an openable disc tray, and pressable buttons. The model is built at 1:1 scale — meaning it matches the real console's dimensions — and contains 1,911 pieces. Inside the brick-built console are hidden dioramas referencing two landmark PlayStation games: Ape Escape and Gran Turismo. Each diorama can be lifted out and displayed on its own. Sony's blog post also teases additional hidden secrets inside the set, without specifying what they are.
A buildable Lego version of the original PlayStation controller comes included in the box. According to the PlayStation Blog, this is the first time players and Lego fans have been able to build an official Lego replica of both the original PlayStation console and its controller.
The set retails at £139.99 in the UK, €159.99 in Europe, and US$179.99 (including tax) in the US. Early orders open through PlayStation Direct — Sony's own digital storefront — on 1 October 2026, available in the US, UK, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. This is not the first collaboration between the two companies. Lego and PlayStation previously partnered on a Lego Horizon Forbidden West Tallneck set, announced in February 2022. Fan-submitted PlayStation 1 concepts have also circulated on Lego Ideas, the platform where the public pitches buildable sets for official production — including a 1,141-piece model with the console, two controllers, and memory cards that reached the first 2026 review stage.
For collectors and nostalgia fans, the appeal is straightforward: a console that defined a generation of gaming, rebuilt in brick form with the kind of mechanical detail — a sliding disc tray, clickable power and eject buttons — that Lego does well. The dioramas add a museum-quality touch, turning the interior of the console into a miniature showcase of games that helped launch the PlayStation brand.
Sony's September 2026 State of Play was a dual broadcast, with both a main showcase and a State of Play Japan stream airing the same day. The Lego PlayStation was one of several hardware-adjacent reveals: limited-edition Grand Theft Auto 6 PS5 controllers were also shown, with availability later in September, according to Eurogamer.
Notably, a life-size original Xbox brick build from Mattel Brick Shop — with 3,509 pieces and five key features — was unveiled in August 2026, suggesting that brick-built retro consoles are becoming a trend that extends beyond a single brand.
The Lego PlayStation goes up for pre-order on 1 October. Anyone wanting the PlayStation Direct early window will need an account in one of the eleven launch regions; everyone else can walk into a Lego store from 4 October onward.
