Milan Fashion Week September 2026: Record 218 Shows as Industry Braces for Revenue Decline

Prada will open Milan Fashion Week on 22 September at 2 p.m. CET, moving up from its traditional Thursday slot to kick off six days of runway shows, presentations and events running through 28 September.
The Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana — the Italian fashion chamber, based at Piazza Duomo in Milan — unveiled the final schedule for the Spring/Summer 2027 women's collections on Tuesday. The calendar, first drafted on 23 July and last updated on 7 September, lists roughly 218 appointments across physical and digital formats, a record for the event WWD.
The week is expected to draw 141,000 visitors, half of them from abroad. Milan's municipality projects the whole of September will bring 496,000 visitors to the city.
But the festivities arrive against sobering numbers. Carlo Capasa, president of the fashion chamber, projected 2026 sales for Italy's fashion and connected industries — textiles, clothing, leather goods, footwear, jewellery, eyewear and cosmetics — at EUR 91.4 billion, down 1.6 percent from 2025. Exports are forecast to fall 2.5 percent to EUR 84.5 billion, while imports hold roughly flat at about EUR 46.2 billion WWD.
Those figures reverse earlier optimism. Initial 2026 projections had forecast total sales growing 1 percent to EUR 94.2 billion, with exports up 2.5 percent and imports up 8.1 percent.
The shift from growth to contraction tells the story of an industry navigating a tougher global trade environment. Italian fashion's reach is wide — its connected industries span everything from fabric mills to eyewear — and its exports move through many of the same markets now facing tariff pressures and softened consumer spending.
Milan is layering other draws around the fashion calendar. The fifth edition of Milan Beauty Week runs 16 to 20 September, ahead of the women's shows. Formula 1 will host "F1 Live Milan," a three-day event starting 18 February 2026, in the lead-up to the women's fashion week earlier in the year.
The full calendar is published by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana on its microsite at milanofashionweek.cameramoda.it and as a PDF on cameramoda.it.
Prada's shift to the opening slot gives the week an immediate headline. Whether the visitor numbers and the record appointment count translate into commercial momentum for a sector facing declining sales is the question the runway cannot answer.
