My Chemical Romance tease hope for first album since 2010
My Chemical Romance hope to make a new album, frontman Gerard Way told fans at the closing night of their Black Parade tour in San Antonio on Sept. 12.
Way spoke to the crowd at the Alamodome in Texas. He framed a new record as a hope rather than a confirmed plan, saying the band has always wanted to make another album, according to Billboard.
No title, timeline or release date was given. The remarks stopped short of an announcement.
If it happens, the record would be the band's first full-length studio album since 2010's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. That is a gap of almost 16 years.
It was also the band's most direct public comment on a potential fifth studio album since its 2019 reunion. Since reforming, My Chemical Romance has released only one standalone single, 2022's The Foundations of Decay.
The tease came at the end of a tour built around their 2006 album The Black Parade, which the band has been playing in full each night. The run was extended into a global stadium run billed as The Black Parade 2026, with dates across North America, the U.K. and Europe.
A 20th-anniversary reissue of The Black Parade is due in October. The band says the anniversary collection brings together everything finished during those sessions in one set for the first time, with three new artworks by James Jean.
The Black Parade remains the band's best-selling album in the United States. It is certified four-times platinum, the award that marks four million units in sales and streaming equivalents, and it topped Billboard's Top Rock Albums chart.
Its lead single, Welcome to the Black Parade, peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, the weekly ranking of the most popular songs in the U.S. It is certified five-times platinum.
For fans, this means the wait is not over. There is still no record to preorder and no date to put in a calendar, only the clearest sign yet that the band wants to make one.
