My Chemical Romance tell San Antonio crowd they want to make another record
My Chemical Romance hope to make another record, singer Gerard Way told fans in San Antonio on 12 September.
He spoke at the Alamodome, where the band closed the North American leg of its Long Live the Black Parade Tour, according to Rolling Stone. No title, tracklist or release date was announced.
"We kind of always wanted to make another record," Way told the crowd. He added that fans deserved one for keeping the band alive.
He was clear about the timing. "I don't know when it'll be," he said, adding of any future record: "But it'll be awesome," according to Billboard. He also said the band would "love to make one soon," according to local outlet MySanAntonio.
It would be a long-awaited return. A new album would be the group's first LP, or long-playing album, since 2010's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.
The band split for a half-decade in the mid-2010s and reunited in 2019. Since then it has released only one new song, 2022's "The Foundations of Decay."
The past year has been about looking back. The group has been touring to celebrate the 20th anniversary of 2006's The Black Parade, its third album and the follow-up to Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge.
San Antonio was a big night to end that run. Nearly 50,000 fans were expected at the Alamodome for the 12 September show, with the Mars Volta listed as the guest. The venue had listed a 7 p.m. start.
The tour is not over. After San Antonio, the band is scheduled to play Louisville's Louder Than Life and Sacramento's Aftershock, followed by a five-night Hollywood Bowl residency concluding on 31 October. After that comes a month-long Southeast Asia tour ending in late November.
For fans, this means waiting on two fronts. There are more shows to come first, with no studio dates confirmed. The message from San Antonio was simple. New music is wanted. The date is not set.
