TNT launches eight-part High Value Target: The Hunt for Saddam on September 13

TNT is giving Sunday night to the hunt for Saddam Hussein. Its new eight-episode limited series — meaning a single, self-contained story told across a set number of episodes — premieres at 9 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The series is titled High Value Target: The Hunt for Saddam. TNT lists it for the 9/8c slot on Sundays and describes it as inspired by real events, according to TNT.

Joel Kinnaman plays CIA analyst John Nixon. Waleed Zuaiter plays Saddam Hussein. Tom Berenger is also part of the cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The dramatisation centres on Nixon's 2003 mission to find and face Saddam, and then to interrogate him in custody, according to TNT and The Hollywood Reporter. It is a scripted account of the interrogation, not a documentary.

The story is based on Debriefing the President, the 2016 memoir by Nixon, a former CIA analyst, according to Variety. Daniel Stiepleman and Jonathan Wakeham adapted the book for television.

On screen, the story opens on March 17, 2003, in the run-up to the Iraq war. The series mixes its scripted scenes with real-life archival war footage and press briefings from the Bush administration, according to Variety.

For viewers, this means one complete story in eight parts, with no ongoing seasons built into the order. Each episode moves from the search operation to the closed-room questioning that followed Saddam's capture.

The project has been in the Warner Bros. Discovery pipeline for more than a year. The company included High Value Target with a working-title designation in its entertainment networks programme lineup in May 2025, according to Warner Bros. Discovery.
