Blizzard dates Diablo V for spring 2029 and new StarCraft shooter for 2030
Blizzard will release Diablo V in spring 2029 and a new StarCraft shooter in 2030.
The dates were set out at BlizzCon 2026 and confirmed in later reporting on 14 September 2026. Eurogamer Naming seasons that far ahead is rare. It hands players a calendar to hold.
Both titles were announced during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026, the fan convention organised by Blizzard, on 12 September 2026. BlizzCon is the company's own showcase. This year's opening was used for its two largest reveals.
Diablo is Blizzard's long-running dark fantasy series. Players fight through dungeons from an overhead view, collecting weapons and armour along the way. Diablo V is set a half-century after the events of Diablo IV. Game Informer
StarCraft began in a very different place. It is a science-fiction strategy series about rival armies fighting for control in space. The new project breaks from that format. It is an open-world shooter, a game centred on exploring a large map and fighting in first- or third-person, rather than directing units from above.
Blizzard executive Dan Hay told the BlizzCon crowd the StarCraft game will be open-world and tonally serious. The company also made the project hands-on for attendees. Blizzard president Johanna Faries was asked why the company dated both games so early. She said the point was assurance for players and staff.
"We want to convey confidence in some of our biggest bets coming forward," Faries said. She added: "We are going to ship, and ship big, and ship on time, and all hands on deck to set those projects up for success." The remarks came in an interview with Bloomberg, as reported by Kotaku.
What makes this stand out is the pledge attached to the dates. Faries linked the early announcements to delivery on schedule. That puts public weight behind internal production plans.
For fans, this means a wait measured in years, with one chance to play early. Diablo V has more than two full years to run before its planned release. The StarCraft shooter has longer still.
