Brie Larson will play Katy Silver in Paramount Pictures' film version of One Italian Summer.

Deadline reported the casting as an exclusive, adding that Larson will also executive produce the picture Deadline. An executive producer holds a senior overseeing role, guiding creative and business decisions without day-to-day management of the shoot. Harry Bradbeer is set to direct.

The film is a Temple Hill Entertainment production, the company behind the shoot Deadline. It adapts Rebecca Serle's New York Times bestselling novel of the same name. Serle will executive produce alongside David Stone of TFC Productions.

Serle's book was first published in 2022, according to The Hollywood Reporter The Hollywood Reporter. The story is set on Italy's Amalfi Coast. It centres on a young woman who, after a devastating loss, reconnects with her mother in a new light.

Paramount has set 12 May 2028 as the cinema release date, timed for Mother's Day weekend Deadline. That is a family-focused holiday corridor. Warner Bros/New Line's Final Destination 7 is currently the only other title dated for that same weekend.

Larson voiced a role in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie The Hollywood Reporter. She is also set to lead Skeletons, director JT Mollner's horror film from Sony. Her forthcoming projects include FX's Cry Wolf and Close Personal Friends from Amazon MGM Studios.

For fans of the book, this means a recognisable lead for a holiday release built around mothers and daughters. A love story opening against a horror franchise gives audiences two very different choices in the same weekend.
