Writer Sophie Fleur de Bruijn Signs With CAA After Jennifer Lawrence Rom-Com Lands at Apple

Sophie Fleur de Bruijn has signed with CAA for representation, consolidating a breakout year in which her romantic comedy spec script "The One Month Mark" sold to Apple with Jennifer Lawrence attached to star (Variety).
The film pairs a woman who has never made it past a month in a relationship with a man who has never gone longer than a month without one. "The One Month Mark" sparked a bidding war earlier this summer and was acquired by Chernin Entertainment, which is producing the film for Apple. Peter Chernin and David Ready are producing for Chernin, alongside Lawrence and her producing partner Justine Ciarrocchi (Deadline). A spec script is an original screenplay written on the writer's own initiative rather than commissioned by a studio, and a bidding war — exactly what it sounds like — is when multiple buyers compete for the same project.
This is de Bruijn's second collaboration with Apple. Her first feature spec, "Early Action," was acquired by Apple Original Films last year. That film follows two parents on a misguided mission to get their son into his dream college and is in development with Kevin Walsh and The Walsh Company producing under their first-look deal with Apple (Variety). A first-look deal gives a producer's company the right of first refusal on projects they bring to the studio.
De Bruijn is a writer, director, and performer. She directed the social horror-comedy "Polycule" in 2024, written by Cal Bolster and Amita Rao. As a comedian, she trained and performed at Chicago's iO and the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre and is a graduate of the Second City Conservatory — the famed Chicago institution whose alumni include Tina Fey, Steve Carell, and Stephen Colbert. Her original play "One Dick For Life," a horror comedy about a bachelorette trip gone wrong, was a Goodman New Stages semifinalist, a Geffen Writers Room semifinalist, and a Weissberger Award nominee (Variety).
She is also represented by Collin Litts at Anonymous Content and by Tara Kole and Tiffany Graddick at Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole LLP.
What makes de Bruijn's rise worth watching is the speed of it. Two spec scripts sold to one of the biggest buyers in streaming, an A-list star attached to the second, and now agency representation from CAA — all within roughly a year. The path from improv stages in Chicago to a Jennifer Lawrence vehicle at Apple is not a common one, and "The One Month Mark" will be a test of whether that momentum holds once cameras roll.
