Noah Wyle wins second straight drama actor Emmy for The Pitt

Noah Wyle has won the Emmy for best actor in a drama series for The Pitt Season 2.

The prize, reported by Variety on 15 September 2026, gives him the award for the second consecutive year. It is the top male acting prize for a drama series, voted by members of the Television Academy.

He won for playing Dr Michael “Robby” Robinavitch in The Pitt, an HBO Max medical drama. The Television Academy had listed him as a 2026 nominee for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for the role, according to Television Academy.

He beat four other nominees. They were Mark Ruffalo for Task, Gary Oldman for Slow Horses, Sterling K. Brown for Paradise and Rufus Sewell for The Diplomat.

The back-to-back win puts Wyle in rare company. He became only the fifth actor to win lead drama actor for a show’s first two seasons, after E.G. Marshall, Bill Cosby, Daniel J. Travanti and Bryan Cranston. He is the first actor to do it since Cranston in 2009.

That run caps a long wait. Wyle was nominated every year from 1995 to 1999 for supporting actor as Dr John Carter on NBC’s ER. He did not win then. His first career Emmy came in 2025 for lead actor for The Pitt.

Last year brought two trophies at once. Wyle won for acting and as an executive producer, meaning a senior creative boss who shares in a show’s top prize, when The Pitt won best drama series. This year he was also recognised with a nomination for directing The Pitt.

The show itself has built fast awards momentum. The Pitt premiered in 2025 and has scored 38 Emmy nominations across its first two seasons. Its first season took nine wins.

For fans, this means more time with Robby ahead. The Pitt Season 3 will premiere on HBO Max in January 2027.
