The Pitt repeats as best drama at the 2026 Emmys
The Pitt has done it again.
The HBO Max medical drama won Outstanding Drama Series at the 78th Emmy Awards, its second straight win in television's top drama category, The Hollywood Reporter.
The win honours a repeat. The Pitt beat seven other nominees: The Diplomat, The Gilded Age, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Paradise, Pluribus, Slow Horses and Your Friends & Neighbors.
Co-creator and showrunner R. Scott Gemmill accepted the prize on stage. He said it is hard to tell what is real and what can be believed anymore, which makes telling honest stories about real human struggles more important than ever.
He added that people need to know the truth and TV creators need to continue telling the truth.
The series also took best lead actor in a drama. Noah Wyle won his second consecutive Emmy in the category for playing Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch on The Pitt.
It was a big night overall for the show. The Pitt won seven Emmys in total in 2026, including five Creative Arts Emmys, the separate ceremony for guest, craft and short-form categories, earlier in the month.
Those earlier wins included Inside The Pitt as a short-form show. Ernest Harden Jr. won Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for playing Louie Cloverfield, and Rhea Seehorn won Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series, Television Academy.
The drama had entered the race with 25 nominations this year, Reuters. The 78th Emmy Awards aired live on NBC and Peacock at 5:00 PM PT / 8:00 PM ET.
What makes this stand out is the back-to-back result. The Pitt was named best television drama at the September 2025 Emmy Awards, when Wyle earned his first Emmy for best drama actor, Reuters.
