Widow's Bay Wins Big at Emmys as Season 2 Work Begins

Widow's Bay had already won three Emmys on Monday night, and it was still waiting on the biggest one.
Creator Katie Dippold and star Matthew Rhys both picked up trophies for the Apple TV comedy series, then spoke to press backstage while the race for Outstanding Comedy Series was still undecided, according to Deadline.
Dippold won for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series. Rhys won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for playing Mayor Tom Loftis, the small-town politician at the centre of the show. The role is listed by the Television Academy.
For Rhys, the comedy win completed a rare set. He is the first actor to win lead acting Emmys in drama, comedy and limited series, according to The New York Times. He had previously won in 2018. At the 2026 ceremony he was honoured for both Widow's Bay and The Beast in Me.
The show arrived at the ceremony with heavy backing. Apple said it scored a record 89 Emmy nominations across its slate, with Widow's Bay nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series and Rhys nominated for lead actor, in a company announcement. Rhys is also an executive producer on the series, meaning a senior creative and business role, alongside Dippold.
Dippold runs the series as showrunner, meaning she has day-to-day creative control, and is also its creator and an executive producer. Hiro Murai directed the series and also won an Emmy on Monday night. The show had already picked up a trophy for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation, listed by the Television Academy.
The maths mattered backstage. A win for Outstanding Comedy Series would give Widow's Bay 14 trophies in a single year, a record for a comedy series.
There is no long pause to enjoy it. Dippold said she and the writers were due back to work on Season 2 on Tuesday.
What makes this stand out is the turnaround. One night of awards, then straight back into the writers' room. For viewers, that means the next chapter was already in motion before the last trophy was decided.
