Givenchy, the French fashion house, has appointed Chinese actress Yang Zi as its house ambassador in China, effective immediately, WWD reported.

A house ambassador is the public face of a label in a set market, wearing its designs for campaigns and public appearances.

She is 33. She is best known to television audiences for leading roles in three drama series: Ashes of Love, Go Go Squid! and Lost You Forever. She is a favourite with viewers at home and abroad, and is recognised far beyond fashion circles.

Her social reach is vast. She counts more than 93 million followers combined across Instagram, Weibo, the Chinese microblogging service, Xiaohongshu, the lifestyle and shopping app, and Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, WWD reported.

The appointment follows a career high. Yang Zi won Best Actress at the 31st Shanghai Television Festival, the Magnolia Award, for her portrayal of Bai Ju in Born to Be Alive. Bai Ju is an environmentally conscious police officer. With that win, Yang Zi became the first actress born in the 1990s to take the prize.

Yang Zi shared her first statement on the new role with WWD.

The role starts now. Givenchy operates 17 physical shops, its brick-and-mortar network, in China. A local ambassador fronts the name in that market, from store events to campaign images.

Yang Zi arrives with long experience in endorsements. Her past associations include Valentino, Olay, Prada Beauty, Michael Kors, Pomellato and MLB China. That list spans fashion, beauty, jewellery and lifestyle.

Two of those fashion links are well documented. Michael Kors, the American fashion label, named her as its brand ambassador for APAC, the Asia-Pacific region, in September 2024, with portraits by photographer Chen Man, WWD reported. Earlier, Valentino, the Italian fashion house, featured Yang Zi alongside actor Yang Yang in its 2024 Lunar New Year Dragon collection campaign. The campaign reworked house staples in Rosso Valentino, its signature red, WWD reported.

What makes this stand out for fans is the crossover. Viewers who know Yang Zi from weeknight dramas will now see her front a Paris name in China. Expect the first Givenchy appearances to land on her own feeds, where her audience already follows.
