Sn\u00e4xx to Launch Europe Microdrama App on 1 November

Snäxx will switch on its microdrama app on 1 November on iOS and Android. The service, backed by Germany-based Black Forest Studios, describes itself as Europe's first premium microdrama platform, according to Deadline. Microdramas are short scripted series made to watch upright on a phone, built for short episodes.
The launch slate runs to 16 completed series. Three titles named so far are Black Forest Royale, Guts and Mountain Medical. The mix at opening will pair Snäxx original productions with selected shows supplied by independent producers, studios and rights holders.
Snäxx is built around a dual-format strategy. Shows are made to play vertically on mobile and in 16:9, the widescreen shape used for television and streaming. That means the same production can move from handset to living room without a reshoot. It also lets one shoot serve two screens.
The company is also pitching a system called Re:Format to the wider industry. Under that model, broadcasters, distributors, studios and producers can have existing film or television content repurposed for the vertical platform. Snäxx said it is actively inviting European and international producers, distributors and rights holders to pitch microdrama content.
Behind the platform is Black Forest Studios, which operates a production base in Freiburg and specialises in vertical video. Sebastian Weiland is co-founder of both the studio and Snäxx. The studio describes its operation as spanning seven studios making premium vertical series at scale. Its board draws senior figures from media, entertainment, technology and investment, with Station 19 actor Boris Kodjoe listed as an adviser.
Earlier company planning pointed to European stories with global reach, with locally rooted microdramas intended to travel to audiences outside the continent. That international sales logic is familiar in television, where a home commission can earn again abroad through licensing deals, meaning the right to show a programme in another market.
For viewers, this means choice. Watch upright on the phone. Watch widescreen at home. For crews, one shoot can feed both. It is a small test of whether one story can live happily in two shapes.
