Everyone hits the slopes in Final Fantasy VII Revelation. Even the party member on four legs.

Game director Naoki Hamaguchi has confirmed the finale of the remake trilogy will bring back the snowboarding minigame, a short downhill race, from the original 1997 role-playing game. He shared the detail in an interview with GameSpot published on 15 September 2026.

In Revelation, snowboarding is an activity accessed at the Gold Saucer. It is the in-game amusement park where players can pause the main story for side games and attractions.

Hamaguchi said all party members, the playable characters who travel and fight alongside the hero, will be seen in the snowboarding section. Players will not just watch Cloud ride alone.

The tease concerns Nanaki, better known to long-time fans as Red XIII. Hamaguchi said the lion-like companion might not be on a snowboard at all, and that what he will be riding instead is built to get attention.

Revelation is scheduled to release on 8 April 2027, with a simultaneous launch on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox, according to Square Enix. The publisher describes the game as "The final battle to decide the fate of the world has begun." The Square Enix Store lists it from US$69.99.

For fans, this means a favourite detour is returning with a larger cast. The original board run was a brief break from saving the world. This version looks keen to give every companion a turn, with one very good boy possibly stealing the scene.
