Insomniac's Violent Wolverine Game Launches on PS5

Marvel's Wolverine reaches PS5 consoles on 15 September 2026 as a brutal, single-player adventure from Insomniac Games, the studio behind its Spider-Man series.
Single-player means one person plays through the story alone. The launch date is listed by Insomniac Games, while the description as a brutal, violent and action-packed solo adventure comes from the PlayStation Blog.
Game director Mike Daly and Marvel Games executive producer Eric Monacelli discussed the project with The Hollywood Reporter. Daly said a core tenet of the combat was "we wanted to be unapologetically violent and honest with how that character would behave."
That approach fits the character. Wolverine, a Canadian mutant with retractable claws and rapid healing, was created by Len Wein and John Romita Sr. and first appeared in The Incredible Hulk No. 180 in 1974, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He began with editor Roy Thomas's wish for Marvel to have a Canadian superhero.
This version lives in Insomniac's corner of the Marvel multiverse, a term for parallel worlds with different histories, designated Earth-1048. In that world the X-Men, the team of mutant heroes, do not exist and mutants are in short supply.
Logan, or Wolverine, is portrayed by Liam McIntyre. He has spent three years on his own before he is drawn back to Team X, a covert unit with a tangled past. Mystique, or Raven, is portrayed by Nicole Pacent. Sabretooth, or Victor, is portrayed by Brett Gipson.
Their leader and benefactor is Nathaniel Essex, portrayed by Troy Baker. The story opens as a rescue mission to save Essex from Bolivar Trask.
Trask is a scientist who hates mutants. He develops the Sentinel programme, giant machines built to hunt mutants, and employs the Reavers, mercenaries rebuilt with cybernetic parts. A wider conspiracy then puts Logan in the path of The Hand, a ninja clan long established in Marvel comics.
For players, there is practical detail alongside the story. Pre-orders are available through Insomniac, and the game is listed for wishlist on the PlayStation Store. Sony has also shown a Marvel's Wolverine Limited Edition PS5 console bundle and accessories, according to the PlayStation Blog.
New gameplay and story details were first laid out in Sony's State of Play broadcast, with a later PlayStation Blog post on 28 August 2026 explaining Logan's mutant abilities and game features. Accessibility options include a Hearing Preset and Mono Audio, which presents sound through a single channel, according to Insomniac support pages.
What makes this stand out for fans is the reset. No school, no team history to learn. Just a lone clawed fighter pulled back into old alliances in a world where his kind is rare.
