Bayonetta leads Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds into second year of free racers

Bayonetta will lead the second year of free racers for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
Sega confirmed on 16 September 2026 that free downloadable characters, extra racers released after launch at no extra cost, will continue into Year Two. Bayonetta, the gun-wielding witch from PlatinumGames' action series, is first up, according to Video Games Chronicle.
The list is long. Sega added 13 free racers during Year One, keeping a steady flow of new faces alongside its paid packs. That run included Hatsune Miku, Joker, Ichiban Kasuga, NiGHTS, AiAi, Tangle and Whisper. It also brought in Red, Goro Majima, Arle, Classic Sonic, Axel and Amigo.
Majima carries a different title in some official material. Sega lists him as Captain Majima on its official videos page, a reference to his pirate outing elsewhere in the company's catalogue.
Paid packs are running in parallel. Sega has released five of six planned Year One packs, built around Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants, Pac-Man, Mega Man and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The last of that set, based on Avatar, is due in October. The Turtles pack puts Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo on the grid, as listed by Sega.
Year Two follows the same split between free and paid. There will be more free racers, starting with Bayonetta. There will also be a Year 2 pass, a bundle that groups several future paid packs together.
That pass holds six collaborations with series from outside Sonic. The first two draw on Godzilla and Evangelion. Sega has not yet detailed dates or prices for those packs.
For fans, this means the roster keeps growing on two tracks. Players who do not buy a pass still get new racers free. Players who want the crossover packs can buy them separately or as part of the Year 2 bundle once Sega shares more detail.
