Sonic Racing CrossWorlds fans demand free Year 2 after deluxe DLC promise

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds players who paid for the Digital Deluxe Edition say Sega owes them Year 2 for free. The complaint centres on pre-release promotion that described the edition as including all future paid downloadable content, extra tracks and vehicles sold after launch. It flared after Sega laid out its second year of add-ons and cut the game's price.
Sega released the kart racer on 25 September 2025. The publisher has now permanently cut the base game from US$70 to US$40, and the Digital Deluxe Edition from US$90 to US$60, according to Video Games Chronicle. Year 2 starts on 3 November 2026 with a paid Godzilla pack. It can be bought pack by pack or as a Year 2 Season Pass, a bundle that unlocks future add-ons, for US$29.99.
The dispute turns on wording from June 2025. A pre-release post said the Digital Deluxe Edition included "base game, Season Pass, all future paid downloadable content and Sonic Prime characters". Players have since shared that wording online and argued it covered more than the first Season Pass. Sega's current store pages describe the original Digital Deluxe Edition more narrowly as the base game plus the Season Pass.
Year 2 is organised as six crossover packs built around outside series. Pack 1 — Godzilla, releasing on 3 November 2026, adds one track and three vehicles. Pack 2 — Evangelion, releasing in January 2027, adds drivers Rei and Asuka plus one track and three vehicles. Pack 3 — Virtual Sanrio Puroland, releasing in the second quarter of 2027, adds Hello Kitty and Kuromi with one track and two vehicles.
Pack 4 — Segaland, releasing in the third quarter of 2027, adds one track and three vehicles. Pack 5 — Midgar, also releasing in the third quarter of 2027, brings content from Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Pack 6 — Reload Revival Royal, releasing in the fourth quarter of 2027, brings Persona content.
Three free additions sit alongside the paid plan. Bayonetta arrives on 3 November, a McLaren Racing car and Sonic skin follow in late November, and Aigis from Persona 3 Reload arrives in early 2027. Buyers of the Year 2 Season Pass get Genesis, Saturn and Dreamcast controller decal packs, custom stickers for their cars, at once, plus vehicles modelled on each console when Year 2 launches on 3 November. Players who own both Season Pass 1 and Season Pass 2 also unlock Super Shadow and his Super Dark Flare vehicle.
For players, this means a maths problem. Early buyers paid more and expected long cover. New buyers pay less and pick what to add.
