Red Leaf Entertainment is developing The Chop, a rags-to-riches drama inspired by the true story of Stephen Matt Morrow, better known as gambling influencer Vegas Matt, The Hollywood Reporter reported on 17 September 2026. Filmmaker Mike Young is set to write the script and produce the film, according to the same report. The news moves a familiar name from casino floors and YouTube thumbnails toward a cinema audience.

Production is eyeing a start in 2027, the trade publication reported. No director has been announced. That puts the project in the early stages, when the screenplay is written before other key roles are filled. A 2027 target gives the team time to develop the script.

Morrow built his following as an advantage slot player, someone who focuses on slot machines, and now counts more than 1.6 million YouTube subscribers, The Hollywood Reporter noted. He is 62 and launched his YouTube channel in January 2007, according to Casino.org reporting from August 2026. His official website describes him as a lifelong gambler, says a Royal Flush in 2021 turned him into a viral sensation and bills his channel as the world's most viewed gambling channel, according to Vegas Matt.

Young is a writer, filmmaker and stand-up comedian, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He wrote and directed Stealing Jokes, a feature starring Michael Rapaport. That film secured theatrical distribution, meaning a release in cinemas, from Byron Allen's Freestyle, the trade publication reported.

The Chop is described as a rags-to-riches drama. In plain terms, that points to a rise from hard times to success. No plot details beyond the connection to Morrow's life were included in the initial report. Casting was also not part of that announcement.

What makes this stand out is the ready-made audience. A channel with more than 1.6 million subscribers means many viewers already know the name. For newcomers, the film will need to explain who Vegas Matt is and why his slot-machine run caught on.

No release date has been set. That is usual for a project at script stage, as calendar slots tend to follow once a director and cast join. More announcements will follow as development continues.
