Wardogs sells 2.2 million copies and out-earns Marathon from Steam alone

Wardogs has sold more than 2.2 million copies on Steam and generated US$70 million (about £52.2 million) in revenue. The estimate comes from Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott, reported on 17 September 2026. It puts the PC-only release among the strongest new launches of the year. Eurogamer
The pace has been rapid. Wardogs sold more than 1 million copies within hours of launch. It then passed 2 million copies in five days after entering Steam Early Access, where players pay to play a game while development continues. Developer Bulkhead expects the game to remain in early access for one to two years.
On an aligned launch-period basis on Steam, Elliott reports Wardogs at 2.2 million copies against 1.7 million for Arc Raiders and 1 million for Helldivers 2. Both of those rivals launched at a price of US$40 (about £35). The comparison covers the same length of time after release on the same storefront.
Wardogs has also made more money than Marathon across all platforms, despite being available only on a single platform. It ranks seventh on Steam's 2026 list of new games when ranked by revenue.
Marathon, Bungie's extraction shooter — a format where teams enter a map to gather loot and try to get out alive — has had a difficult run. Bungie confirmed in May 2025 that the game had used unauthorised artwork and said it was undertaking a thorough review of in-game assets. GamesIndustry.biz PlayStation later recorded a US$765 million impairment loss related to Bungie, an accounting charge that reflects a lower valuation, in financial results reported in May 2026. Wishlists help explain the Wardogs surge. The game converted 11% of its Steam wishlists, the bookmarks players set for games they plan to buy, into sales. About 57% of those wishlists were made in the final month before Elliott's report, which points to a late rush of attention rather than a long build.
Bulkhead has console plans further out. PlayStation and Xbox ports of Wardogs are planned for sometime in 2028.
What makes this stand out is the platform gap. Wardogs is still Steam-only, with consoles more than a year away, yet it is already ahead of multi-platform rivals on revenue. For players, that means a large early community in one place while console owners wait.
