World of Warcraft: Forever will be fully playable on a controller at launch

You can play World of Warcraft: Forever from start to finish on a controller.
Blizzard has announced full controller play will be ready at launch on 4 November, covering the whole game rather than menus or movement alone, according to GameSpot. Support includes Xbox and PlayStation controllers.
GameSpot tried the system in a hands-on demo at BlizzCon 2026. The demo covered the Skyborne elf starting zone, the opening area where new characters learn the basics, played entirely on a controller. That test build described controller support as “alpha”, an early version still in development and likely to change.
Blizzard set out the plan in its World of Warcraft: Forever What’s Next Panel Recap. The studio said Forever includes support for players who prefer to play with a controller, with options designed to welcome more players into Azeroth, the game’s fantasy setting, according to Blizzard News. The detail on pad types, naming Xbox and PlayStation controllers, was reported by Polygon.
The dates are fixed. Blizzard lists a global launch on 4 November 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST. A beta, a wider test period before launch, begins on 17 September.
There is no word yet on the current live game. Blizzard made no announcement on whether full controller support will come to retail World of Warcraft, the long-running version that has long been centred on keyboard and mouse play on PC.
What makes this stand out is access. A controller is a familiar tool for many players. It allows play from a sofa, with fewer keys to manage, and with layouts that some players find more comfortable for long sessions. For a series tied to one control method for more than two decades, that is a practical shift.
It will be tested at scale very soon. Beta players get hands on from 17 September, with the full launch to follow in November. The alpha label on the BlizzCon demo means controls and tuning can still be refined before then, but the commitment is clear: controller play is part of the launch package, not an add-on later.
