Frameline reveals autumn showcase with Dolly Parton opener
Frameline will launch its first autumn showcase across San Francisco in October and November with five LGBTQ+ features and a Dolly Parton tribute to open, according to Variety.
The queer arts nonprofit presented the programme in celebration of its 50th San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival, which took place in June. Executive director Allegra Madsen leads the organisation.
It starts with Dolly. The showcase kicks off on 11 Oct with a retrospective screening of 9 to 5 at 3 p.m. at the Castro Theatre. The 1980 office comedy was directed by Colin Higgins and is being shown as a tribute to Parton.
The five new titles then roll out across three city venues through early November. They are Mouse, directed by Kelly O'Sullivan and Alex Thompson; Tangles, directed by Leah Nelson; Clarissa, directed by Arie Esiri and Chuko Esiri; Coward, directed by Lukas Dhont; and Elsinore, directed by Simon Stone.
Dates are set. Mouse screens on 14 Oct at 7 p.m. at the Vogue Theatre, followed by Tangles on 20 Oct at 7 p.m. at the Premier Theater at One Letterman. Clarissa plays on 21 Oct at 7 p.m. at the Vogue Theatre, Coward follows on 28 Oct at 7 p.m. at the same venue, and Elsinore closes the run on 5 Nov at 7 p.m. at the Castro Theatre.
Two of the titles arrive with familiar names attached. Elsinore follows actor Ian Charleson, played by Andrew Scott, as he prepares to perform Hamlet at the National Theatre in London. Clarissa, based on Mrs. Dalloway, stars David Oyelowo, Ayo Edebiri and India Amarteifio.
What makes this stand out is the timing. The autumn dates give San Francisco audiences a second Frameline gathering in the same year as the milestone June festival, spread across the Castro, the Vogue and One Letterman.
