Lady Gaga and Michael Polansky welcome daughter Rose Bean Polansky
Lady Gaga and fiancé Michael Polansky have reportedly become parents to a baby girl named Rose Bean Polansky.
The baby was born on June 9 in Los Angeles, according to details published on Sept 17 by Billboard. The report gave the child's full name, birth date and birth city for the first time.
News of the birth first emerged on Sept 11. Page Six reported then that Gaga had welcomed her first child with Polansky, but said the baby's name, sex and date of birth were not known at that time. PEOPLE confirmed the arrival that week, and E! News then reported the name as Rose Bean Polansky and the date as June 9.
The name has two stories. Rose is said to be inspired by "La Vie En Rose," the Edith Piaf song Gaga performed in the 2018 film A Star Is Born. Gaga has a large rose tattoo running down her spine, with the words "la vie en rose" written alongside it.
The film link runs deep. The A Star Is Born soundtrack spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the US albums chart. That run made it one of the longest-running chart-toppers of her career.
Bean is said to be a nod to Carl Bean, the singer and activist whose work inspired Gaga's "Born This Way." That song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the US singles chart. Gaga has long credited Bean's 1977 disco record "I Was Born This Way" as a starting point for her own song.
The birth follows a busy run of releases and live work. Her sixth studio album Mayhem debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The supporting trek, the Mayhem Ball, was organised across five continents and wrapped up in April.
The numbers are large. The tour grossed $419.5 million and sold just under 2 million tickets, according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore, which logs tour takings. That total placed it among the 10 highest-grossing tours by a woman in Boxscore history.
Gaga also appeared as herself in The Devil Wears Prada 2 earlier this year and contributed three new songs to its soundtrack. Last year, during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, she described becoming a mother as her "next starring role."
For fans, this means a private period is now public. Gaga and Polansky had not announced the arrival themselves. She kept it private.
