Though I Am an Inept Villainess is coming back in January 2027 with three new voices joining the cast.
Toho Co., Ltd. announced the additions alongside a new key visual, meaning fresh promotional artwork, for the second cour, meaning a second three-month block of episodes. The new run is subtitled The First Royal Outing Arc, according to Variety. No exact premiere date has been confirmed yet.
Yuichi Nakamura will voice Keikou, the eldest brother of lead character Reirin. Shunichi Toki will play Keishou, her second-eldest brother. Chiaki Kobayashi joins as Unran, a young village chief from the south. The three parts widen the story around Reirin as it moves into its royal outing chapter.
The anime premiered on Japanese television in July 2026. It adapts the light novel series by Satsuki Nakamura, a format built on short prose volumes with occasional illustrations that often supplies anime source material. That first screen look, with a trailer, visual and additional cast, was revealed in March 2026, according to Crunchyroll.
Set in a kingdom inspired by historical China, the story centres on five clans that each put forward maidens as imperial consorts. Rival households are organised around the throne, and the contest for influence drives much of the scheming. The set-up will feel familiar to palace-drama viewers, with family ties doing as much work as court rank.
Animation comes from studio Doga Kobo, with Mitsue Yamazaki directing. The studio draws and assembles the animation, while the director guides story, performance and look across episodes. The series streams on Crunchyroll.
Earlier Japanese casting included Makoto Furukawa as Ei Gyoumei and Yuichiro Umehara as Shin-u. An English dub, meaning dialogue re-recorded in another language, is also available. In that version, Brianna Knickerbocker voices Kou Reirin and Rebecca Wang voices Shu Keigetsu, according to Crunchyroll.
For viewers, this means a short gap between chapters. The January window lands about six months after the July debut, a common rhythm for split-season anime. A firm start day and further footage are still to be shared.
