Taylor Frankie Paul steps back from Mormon Wives as three cast futures turn uncertain

Taylor Frankie Paul says she does not "desire to move forward" with The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. The comment, reported on 21 September, leaves the series without its central figure eleven days after Season 5 premiered.

Paul had been set to return for Season 6. That next season was filming in September. Her latest statement changes that plan. It came after weeks of uncertainty around her participation.

Her exit is not the only one. Mikayla Matthews said she "will not be continuing the show at this moment". Mayci Neeley said she is finishing the current season being filmed and is unsure about after that. All three updates were reported by Deadline on 21 September.

Season 5 arrived on 10 September with five episodes. It is a short run. The show has been renewed, meaning ordered for more episodes, for a further 20 episodes to be presented as Seasons 6 and 7. A 20-episode order organised as two seasons is a large commitment, the kind that normally covers an extended shoot and post-production period.

The five-episode season followed disruption behind the scenes. Season 5 was truncated, meaning cut short, due to Paul's domestic violence claims, Deadline reported on 15 September. The report ties the shorter order directly to that issue. It does not detail further claims beyond that link.

Paul has also said she is leaving the Mormon Church amid a domestic violence scandal involving Dakota Mortensen, according to Variety in April. That account dates from earlier in the year. It forms background to the current decisions, not a new claim. It was reported almost five months before the September filming.

Matthews had previously stepped away around the scandal, saying it felt "wrong and unethical" to continue, Variety reported on 14 September. Her wording on 21 September was different. The position is the same pause, described then as stepping away and now as not continuing at this moment.

Filming for Season 6 was under way in September. That means cameras were rolling while participation was still being settled. For viewers, this leaves uncertainty around who will appear in the episodes now in production. The reports to date do not name replacements for the three cast members.
