Crisp Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire clip sparks Switch port talk
An official Pokémon social media account has posted a 30-second clip from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. The clip shows Wingull, the player trainer and the sailor Mr. Briney.
Fans noticed the picture quality first. The footage looks high-resolution and crisp, not like a game running on its original Game Boy Advance hardware, according to Eurogamer. The length also drew attention. Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 automatically save the last 30 seconds of play, which matches the clip.
That combination led many viewers to read the post as a hint at ports, meaning versions adapted to run on newer consoles, for Nintendo Switch. It is a fan reading, not an announced release. No date, price or platform has been confirmed for Ruby and Sapphire.
The originals are Game Boy Advance games. Nintendo still lists Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire under that system. They are set in the Hoenn region, a chain of islands, towns and sea routes the player travels by foot and boat. Nintendo later sold remakes, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.
There is recent business context. Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version, remakes of the earliest Pokémon role-playing games, were announced for Nintendo Switch with a release date of 27 February, according to Pokémon. Those Switch re-releases then sold upwards of 4 million units in their first six weeks, according to Eurogamer. Dataminers also reported finding built-in support for Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald code inside the FireRed and LeafGreen Switch versions.
A separate report described a leak claiming a Pokémon Emerald port for Nintendo Switch 2 was planned for September or October 2026 alongside Ruby and Sapphire ports, according to Vice. A leak is unverified material shared without an official announcement, and it stays a leak until the publisher confirms it.
