Trover Saves the Universe vanishes from digital stores without warning

Trover Saves the Universe has disappeared from digital stores on every platform, with no warning to players.

As of 22 September 2026, the comedy game from Squanch Games is no longer available to buy on Steam, the Epic Games Store, Meta, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo storefronts, the digital shops where games are sold. The removal was first noted by Video Games Chronicle.

Tracking site SteamDB shows the app_retired_publisher_request flag was activated for the game on Monday, 21 September 2026. The flag is a backend setting a publisher or developer uses to retire a game from sale on Steam. Once it is on, new customers cannot buy the game there.

Squanch Games had not warned players about the delisting, a removal from sale, and had given no reason on its official channels at the time of reporting. Delistings can happen for many routine business reasons, from expired licences to catalogue changes, but the studio has not said what applies here.

Trover Saves the Universe is a comedy adventure built around combat, platforming, puzzles and morally questionable choices, according to its Steam listing. Squanch Games describes the set-up in blunt terms: a beaked villain named Glorkon has dognapped your two dogs and stuffed them into his eye holes. You team up with Trover, a sharp-tongued guide, to get them back.

The game was originally released for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR in May 2019. It then arrived on PC, Switch and Xbox One later in 2019, followed by Oculus Quest in 2020.

Squanch Games was co-founded by Justin Roiland, co-creator of the animated series Rick and Morty. Roiland resigned from the studio in January 2023. The studio is best known for High On Life, and its earlier catalogue includes Accounting, Accounting+ and Dr Splorchy Presents alongside Trover, according to its FAQ.

For fans, this means there is currently no digital route for a new player to buy Trover Saves the Universe. Physical copies, where they exist, are unaffected by a digital removal.

What makes this stand out is the silence and the scale. Single-store removals are common. A simultaneous disappearance across PC, console and virtual reality stores, with no public note, is rarer. Squanch Games has not yet responded, and the listing pages remain unavailable.
