Mario Kart Tour is no longer playable. Nintendo switched off the servers for the seven-year-old mobile racer on 29 September, and players can no longer log in. Video Games Chronicle

The servers went dark. Nintendo had announced in July that the game would become unplayable as of 22:59 PT on 29 September. Its formal discontinuation notice listed the cut-off as 11:00 p.m. PT on 29 September 2026. Nintendo Support

The game was released in September 2019 as a free-to-play spin-off of the Mario Kart series, free to download with in-app purchases. It was organised around tours, limited-time events that rotated tracks, characters and challenges. As a live-service game, one sold once and then updated in seasons after launch, it depended on players returning for each new tour.

By closure the roster had grown large. The game featured 267 playable characters including alternate outfits, alongside 340 karts, 238 gliders and 546 courses. It ran for 93 tours in total.

The business peaked early. According to AppMagic estimates cited in reporting, Mario Kart Tour was downloaded more than 276 million times and generated around US$268.5 million across its lifespan. Monthly revenue was around US$5 million to US$6 million for most of 2020 and 2021, before falling to around US$650,000 by July 2026.

Its random-draw pipe system for unlocking new characters, a gacha mechanic where players pay for a chance at rare items, was removed in 2022. That changed how new drivers and equipment were sold, with more direct purchases in its later years.

The launch had been huge. Sensor Tower Store Intelligence estimates put installs at more than 20 million within 24 hours of debut across the App Store and Google Play, and at 90 million downloads in the first week, then the fastest-ever launch for a Nintendo mobile game.

Something remains for record-keepers. The game entered end-of-service maintenance from 11:00 p.m. PT on Tuesday, 29 September to 5:59 p.m. PT on Wednesday, 30 September. Mario Kart Tour Past Tours' Stats can be viewed once that maintenance ends, while past All-Cup Rankings stay available until the end of September 2027.

For fans, this means the race is over but the record stays. No more tours, no more logins, only the archived standings of where everyone finished.
