Capital Theatre Delays Opening to Next Year as Dirty Dancing Moves to West End

London's new Capital Theatre will not open this autumn. The launch has been pushed to next year. Producers blamed continuing delays over planning permission with Hammersmith and Fulham Borough Council, according to WhatsonStage.

The venue is planned as a purpose-built 620-seat auditorium at Westfield London in west London. The address is Ariel Way, London W12 7GF, in Shepherd's Bush, as listed by WestEndTheatre. It is intended to give the shopping centre its own full-time theatre space.

The delay has cost the building its opening show. A revival, meaning a new staging of an earlier hit, of Dirty Dancing will no longer launch the Capital. Producers said the production will instead open in the West End, WhatsonStage reported.

Dirty Dancing had been due to play the Capital from 16 October 2026 to 21 March 2027. The show carries a 12+ age limit. Those Capital dates no longer apply.

People who already booked for the Capital season are being contacted directly. They will get special access to tickets for the Prince Edward season in the West End. The offer was confirmed alongside the delay announcement on 22 September 2026.

This is not the first hold-up for the project. Earlier reports pointed to planning and design issues, and said the scheme had added a rehearsal studio and new facilities, according to AussieTheatre. That history provides context for a longer build. The latest delay rests on the council permission decision.

For fans, this means a change of postcode, not a cancellation. The dancing stays in London. The new theatre waits.
