Dirty Dancing to Return to West End at Prince Edward in January 2027

Dirty Dancing will return to the West End in January 2027 for a limited season at the Prince Edward Theatre. The booking puts the show back in London's main commercial theatre district after a change of venue plan WhatsOnStage.

The London history is long. The musical had its West End premiere at the Aldwych Theatre in 2006, where it ran for five years. It came back to the Piccadilly Theatre in 2013 and to the Phoenix Theatre in 2016, followed by runs at the Dominion Theatre in 2022 and 2023.

The stage version is based on the 1987 film starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. The book is by Eleanor Bergstein, who wrote the film's screenplay.

The Prince Edward dates follow a change of plan. Dirty Dancing had been due to be the first show at the new Capital Theatre, whose opening has been postponed. Earlier listings had the Capital Theatre run starting previews on 16 October, with opening night on 6 November and performances booked through to 21 March 2027 at the purpose-built venue in Westfield Playbill. That staging was described as a reimagined version of the production that played the Aldwych.

A separate UK and Ireland tour is also on the road in 2026-2027. Listings include Sunderland's Empire Theatre on 22-26 September 2026 and Manchester's Palace Theatre on 29 September to 3 October 2026, with later dates including Norwich Theatre Royal on 12-16 January 2027 and Birmingham's Alexandra Theatre on 18-23 January 2027 Dirty Dancing on Stage.

For fans, this means a choice. Catch the touring production in regional theatres, or wait for January in London.
