Baby and Johnny are coming to Broadway.

Producers said on Oct. 6 that Dirty Dancing: The Musical, based on the 1987 film, will play a limited seven-month engagement in winter 2027 Deadline. A limited engagement means the closing date is set before the first ticket is sold.

Performances begin Feb. 12, 2027, at Broadway's Lena Horne Theatre. The gala celebration, the official opening night, is set for March 14. The run ends Sept. 5, 2027. That is eight performances a week through spring and summer.

The month between the first performance and the gala is previews. That is normal on Broadway. The company plays for paying audiences while still making changes before critics and opening-night guests arrive.

Annalese Starzec will play Frances “Baby” Houseman. Blake Zelesnikar will play Johnny Castle. No other casting was announced.

Lonny Price will direct. Darrell Grand Moultrie will choreograph the dancing. Eleanor Bergstein wrote the book, the spoken story that connects the songs. Bergstein also wrote the film’s screenplay. Joseph Joubert provides music supervision and arrangements, shaping the songs for a theater band Playbill.

Price knows this title from the inside. He played Neil Kellerman in the original film. His directing credits since then include Sunset Boulevard and Sweeney Todd. Moultrie’s credits include Fat Ham.

The producers are The Path Entertainment Group, Lionsgate, LD Entertainment and Magic Hour Productions. Lionsgate, which controls the film property, joins as a stage producer.

The Broadway dates follow road dates. The tour includes stops in Detroit, West Palm Beach and Boston BroadwayWorld. One presenter, Broadway at the National, lists its engagement for Sept. 29-Oct. 4, 2026, with a runtime of 2 hours and 20 minutes including intermission. The current staging has been described as a new revival of the musical adaptation of the film.

The Broadway arrival has been in the works. In October 2024, the show was targeting a 2025 launch with a North American run that included Broadway. That plan has now resolved into the 2027 dates at the Lena Horne.

For fans, this means the Catskills summer romance gets a Broadway house, a full company and a live band. Ticket on-sale dates and prices were not announced.
