Hulu unveils Clown Panic trailer ahead of 12 October premiere
Hulu has released the trailer for Clown Panic, a documentary about the 2016 clown scare that swept the United States.
The film will premiere on 12 October as part of Huluween, the streamer's seasonal slate of Halloween programming, according to Deadline. Viewers outside the US will be able to watch it on Disney+ internationally.
Clown Panic revisits a strange autumn when alleged clown sightings turned into national hysteria. It traces the episode to early reports of people dressed as clowns hiding in woods near a small community in South Carolina. Those reports spread fast. Within weeks, similar sightings were being reported across the country.
The documentary is directed by Ed Perkins. It is produced by Jonathan Chinn and Simon Chinn for Lightbox, the production company behind the Oscar-winning documentary Man on Wire.
The film is built around first-hand accounts and perspective. It features interviews with witnesses and law enforcement officers who dealt with the reports, alongside working clowns and cultural commentators who place the scare in context.
It arrives as a Hulu Original, meaning it was commissioned to launch first on Hulu in the US. The Huluween banner covers the platform's horror, thriller and Halloween-themed releases each year, from new films and series to library titles grouped for the season.
