GTA 6 Takes Over Miami Arena Roof With Helicopter-Lifted Vice City Sign

A helicopter is lifting giant letters onto the roof of Miami's Kaseya Center, one by one. When the work is finished, they will read "Welcome to Vice City".
The rooftop sign is the centrepiece of marketing for Grand Theft Auto 6 ahead of the game's November release. Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive, the developer and publisher behind the series, are installing the letters with Miami-Dade County, the Miami Heat and the arena, according to GameSpot.
The deal is valued at almost US$1 million for the county. The money is earmarked to develop a plot of land behind the arena that was long promised for community use, such as a park.
The agreement surfaced in public during an overnight county budget meeting. Chief of staff Christopher Hudtwalcker, speaking for Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, announced it at about 1:30 a.m. The mayor signed it under delegated authority that allows contracts under US$1 million without board approval, according to WLRN. District 3 Commissioner Keon Hardemon, whose district includes the arena, said he had been briefed and thought it was a good idea.
Not everyone agreed. Commissioner Bermudez and Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz criticised the game for glorifying crime and the killing of police officers. The two released a joint statement earlier in September 2026 rejecting any marketing deal with Rockstar. Bermudez proposed redirecting the funds to cover gaps in the law division's budget, including the Sheriff's Office.
The roof sign is only one idea that was discussed. Other pitches included rebranding Miami International Airport as Vice City Airport, wrapping a Metromover train, a free automated transit system in downtown Miami, and installing Grand Theft Auto-themed manhole covers across the county.
Grand Theft Auto VI is set in Vice City, a fictional city heavily inspired by Miami. It is scheduled for release on 19 November. Rockstar has also announced Grand Theft Auto 6: The Album, a 34-song collection of original music featuring performers including Keith Richards, Yung Lean and Morgan Wallen. The album is due on the same day, and a physical edition is available to pre-order.
What makes this stand out is the location. For fans, this means the real city behind the fictional one is now part of the launch, letter by airlifted letter.
